Colour and British craftsmanship make an impressive double act at this 19th Century lodge, set in the quintessentially English village of Semley on the Wiltshire and Dorset border. With scenic walks close by and the mighty Jurassic Coast less than an hour's drive away, you'll never be short of things to do. And when thoughts turn to food, there's a 17th Century pub for hearty grub just a three-minute walk over the village common. But it's back at home where you'll really want to be. Original exposed stonework and oak beams show the bones of this period home, while a glorious and carefully curated mix of textiles, ceramics, antiques, and contemporary pieces champion British craft from all eras. In the shaker-style kitchen beautifully equipped for keen cooks with kitchenware from David Mellor and tableware from Another Country, there's a welcome hamper awaiting. Expect award-winning British craft food (we're talking homemade cakes), and fresh milk and butter (from the dairy over the road). Over in the snug sitting room, there's timber ready to stoke up the wood-burning stove and a bookcase filled with modern classics. At every chic bedside, there's a Roberts radio waiting to serenade you. And don't get us started on the Edwardian design gardens, with suntrap terrace and barbecue. This place delivers a new kind of luxury – and we couldn't love it more.

"We have used Plum Guide a few times and have always found the places we stayed and the Plum Guide service excellent from start to finish. Recently we rented an apartment in Venice. The apartment was perfect for our needs - well appointed, comfortable beds, right number of bathrooms, lovely kitchen and living areas. The location was also perfect for us - quiet neighbourhood but close to everything - quick access to 2 vaparetto stops and easy walks to almost everywhere Plum Guide service was, as usual, excellent"
